About the Maker

The largest American Majolica producer of the late-19th century, Griffen, Smith, and Hill (Estruscan Majolica) ceramics are revered for their vibrant colors and iconic motifs. Often derived from English models, their ceramics were set apart by distinctive glazes, formulated in-house, and widely admired for their richness. Along with their begonia plates, the pieces of the Shell and Seaweed collections are amongst thier most celebrated works.
